11,390 license plate

My friend who let me buy his Chevy Volt, bought a Tesla and his new license plate is 11390EL---pretty cool that Illinois alone is up to 11,390 EV cars.  My  1994  conversion of  Ford Escort  back in 2001 was 98EL.  We have come a long way!!!

I got 900x back on Memorial day, so that is 2,300 new EL plates registered in 5 months.

When I bought my MG conversion my plate was 210. 6 years latter I bought my Leaf and it was 320. Only 110 cars registered in 6 years. It is great to see how fast the numbers are going up now and I still see electrics with out EL plates.

By the way, today I saw a Volt with EL plates. Is that legal? I would have loved to transfer my plates from my Leaf to my Volt.

At the Naperville NDEW event in Sept,  I had just finally switched over to my EL plate on my Bolt EV and got - 9974. We had just purchased the Tesla as well and my plate came in as 9991 end of Sept....

Just shy of the 9999/10000 mark.

That is a lot of EVs if were up to 11390

Volt's have gas tanks so they are not qualified to get EL plates.

There’s at least 2 Volts driving around IL with EL plates. Don’t know how it happened, but they are out there.

Because when you register it you sign an affidavit that it's an electric car...

I love my EV plate number-4567EV. Poker plate! I have a beef with charging etiquette. I spend a little too much time at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. They have 2 free charging spots in the main lot. Unless I get there early the spots are always taken up by a Volt and a BMW 3 series PHEV. They are there the entire day! Talk about rude. They are probably charged up in an hour or so and should be required to move but they don't. Just my .02!

The Volt has a slow 3kw charger and takes about 5 hours to fully charge on a 208 volt charging station.  The Volt should probably move over lunch though. 

From a parking lot design standpoint it would be best if there were more spots blocked out per charging station so it would be easy enough to share the cable without the cars moving.  Since changing human behavior is virtually impossible I suggest asking the Hospital management to block two more spots for EV's around the chargers to make sharing possible.

I concur with Jeff, parking lot design needs to have the capability of sharing the charging points. I envisage clusters, perhaps in a quad arrangement so that the cord can be easily moved between vehicles. Maybe a boom that helps manage the cable? Some creative thinking has probably already started!

I would recommend they change to charging the $2.00 an hour that ChargePoint charges.  They will move when they get a $16 bill.  I also think they should install 120 plugs on the same pole so anyone with an extension cord can get a charge within reach.
