Need (to make) adapter plate

Hello all,

I have the frame fixed up and the suspension is almost complete.

This is taking a long time.  :P

I bought a WarP9 motor for a good deal(thank you John Emde)

Now I am starting my focus on the actual EV conversion.

My first objective is to get the motor attached to the transmission.

Since my car is not the usual item the ready made adapter plates are not going to do it.

I am going to have to make it myself or find a place to have it done.

I have called a few of the EV supply houses and no one is willIng to help so far.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion of a place to help.

Better yet, can anyone explain the process of making one.

For instance what material and thickness any tips or tricks etc. ?

I will be needing a flywheel adapter as well.

What would be great is if there was a generic type adapter that is set up for motor "X" and blank on the other side to attach your own transmission.

Any and all suggestions are helpful. Maybe links to folks who have done this and wrote about.

The guys at BuildEV might be able to adapt the WarP 9 to your trans.  John Emde has manufactured adapters for front and rear wheel vehicles.  Call me at 630-740-8826.  John Jeide

I don't recall what car / transmission that you are modifying, can you provide some details, or a link to previously posted details?

The car I have is a Delorean.

It comes stock with a Renault UN1 (I think) transaxle in the rear.

It is a 5 speed manual.

I would like to keep that unit because it fits already and all the set up of linkages are done.

Another reason is that it is a transaxle.

It would be very difficult to reengineer the drive shaft set up.

There a a few Deloreans that have been converted and I have been able to chat with a few owners.

Since it is a unique vehicle there is not a lot of specific support out there for an EV conversion.

Any help or knowledge is much appreciated.

Usually the transmission bell housing and the end of the motor can be interfaced by machining a plate. By transposing the bolt pattern of the transmission bell housing to a piece of 1/2" thick aluminum and then including the bolt patter and hole for the 'C' faced of the motor; you may be able to achieve it. Find a good auto chop shop and ask them? Anybody who has access to a milling machine maybe able to figure it out for you. Sadly all the machine shops have gone because some idiots thought we could out source everything...
But keep me posted because I may have access to a million machine and it might be a good idea if I got behind one again!

A friend of mine owns his own small machine shop, if you get to the point of knowing the dimensions but can't find the how, we can talk to him.
