Jeff, I think your assessment is on target. He likely has a new charging algorithm that will give extended pack life. Deeper discharge could be one factor, they may have new information about charging rate and battery capacity, or perhaps a charging algorithm that extends capacity over many charge cycles. I also suspect he has found a driving mode that increases regen. If he has enough computer processing power onboard, he can extend range by doing GPS coordinates with a memory of prior trips. If the software recognizes that you always stop at a set GPS coordinates on your way to work, it could turn up regen at that point each day.
