As I work on my miata conversion, I am wandering what is typically done to disable the batteries in the event of an accident.  I noted that Jim used some kind of inerial sensor/switch to disengage relay contacts in his saturn.   What is a source of such a sensor and relay?

Paul:  Jim's was the first EV i've seen with an inertia switch.   Most i've seen use a high amperage/voltage circuit breaker with a cable running to the drivers compartment to disconnect the main pack.  Mine is really old fashioned (i've seen newer EVs use it too), i have a cable that pulls the 500A anderson connector physically apart.  i'll show you sometime at a meeting.

Besides the circuit breaker there is the large ceramic fuse.  Michael Brown even says to have a cable cutter  handy, but would be in an emergency.
