EV membership through car raffle
« on: March 07, 2019, 04:07:17 PM »
https://www.designnews.com/electronics-test/top-ten-selling-electric-cars

This article from design news was promising, but also depressing.  How could we EV people not be raising the percent of EV's in the US above 2%.  What if we bought an inexpensive EV Leaf, Focus, Volt, etc. and then we sold raffle tickets at a college or high school.  The winning college or high school student would get FVEAA membership free for two years, we would have more publicity about us and more EV's would be young hands of the future.   If we partner with  the Make dealer, perhaps they will provide free rides, and help us with the purchase.  Your thoughts???

Good idea. As I've been saying:
E - Encounter
E - Engage
E - Education
E - EVangelize about Electric vehicles.
E - Every day
It's amazing how every stranger you meet you can twist the conversation to electric vehicles with very little effort. That small amount of education is often enough to cause people to rethink their next vehicle. Pointing out some of the nuances and being honest about it. Then let them drive an EV!

Back around the year 2010 we (FVEAA) were doing a monthly raffle for misc things.  We stopped doing that because we needed to register and file an annual report with the Illinois Attorney General. At the time, the club decided it wasn't worth it, so no more raffles.

To John Emde's point, what if the college or high school ran the raffle.  Schools do them all the time and they can better motivate their masses.  We could ask for donations from our members or a reduced cost from the dealership and automaker.
